Let's face it square-on - our financial reality doesn't always match the great American dream. We want to be prosperous; own property, have good credit scores and live the American dream. But it often seems it is twice as hard for us to make it financially in America.

Personally, I have experienced the financial pitfalls as an African American trying to make it in America. I have worked hard for over 25 years, was finally able to purchase a home - only to see it go under a short sell to avoid foreclosure. That experience really hurt to the bone, and I know many others like me are currently in the same situation.
