Toni, as her mother always liked to brag, was a challenging child even before birth. her mother loved to tell the story about how she was so sick all the time that she lost 50 pounds during her pregnancy, was told that Toni was a boy, and then, no less, the child tried to hang herself with the umbilical cord during delivery. Mama always said that when Toni was delivered, she wanted to tell the doctors to "put her back in there", because her and daddy wanted a boy this go around!
